Task 1:
I like your cover and there is a clear sense that you have thought about the relationship between text placement and image. It isn't wholly clear whether the magazine is a fashion or a music magazine, and realistically it looks more like the latter. When you do research for your real coursework, you need to really explicitly consider what it is that makes it a fashion (or whatever genre) of magazine.

I can't judge your research because you haven't posted it, so please make sure that you know how to embed powerpoints so that this doesn't hold you up when it comes to your real coursework

Task 2:
I really like your photography, though the long shots are not quite so carefully considered as your closer shots. Be especially aware of the problems posed by the lights. I don't mind that you have kept them in shot for this particular task, but do bear in mind what your shots are for and make that a priority of all future shots.

One of the things you are doing very well in telling a story with your images. This will really be important for your mock assessment task (Music Magazine). Consider carefully how the combination of image and anchoring text might help to define a narrative.

I'm looking forward to seeing your mock and your externally assessed coursework. You have a really good eye.

Task 3:
Firstly, well done for hitting the deadline here. You have done a lot of work in a short time and should be pleased with yourself. I'm especially impressed by your research section, which shows really strong attention to detail.

Production (Magazine) - 17/25
The photography is particularly sound here. I'm especially impressed by the way you have thought about the mise en scene, which clearly establishes your ideas about representation. However, the anchoring text on your front cover does need some more consideration because it is not clear which of the sell lines goes with the central image. This is the biggest criticism I have for the whole piece. Your attention to layout and design needs some more care. This is especially true of the contents page, which is really not very navigable and detracts from the whole piece. Consider a more cohesive sense of design that finds its way through the whole page. Don't be afraid to copy an existing layout almost exactly.

Website - 21/25
You've done a really good job here. I would have made the cover/subscription section a little smaller, but the attention to layout and design through the rest of the website is excellent. The images really work and the text that goes with each story encourages the reader to access the story. You've worked really hard on this element and it shows. Well done. The weakest part is the top banner, which should be given more care because it is the first thing a reader sees. When it comes to the real coursework give this some very careful thought.

Convergence - 5/10
I may be missing it but I can't find any 'call to action' on your magazine. This is a really important element to ensure convergence. Some of the shared sensibilities between the magazine and contents help to establish cohesion, but there is a greater sense of design in the website that needs to fin its way into the magazine to really score highly in this section.

In summary:
43/60 = B-
Really well done here. You clearly have the potential to achieve an A grade, but you need a little more attention to layout and design. I'm really impressed with your work ethic on this piece and with your use of photography. Getting to grips with the website will help you to achieve a very high grade in the real coursework. Well done!
